Habitat for Humanity is an independent, nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing ministry that partners with people of all beliefs. Knoxville Habitat for Humanity has been an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International since 1985. We build simple, decent, affordable homes in partnership with those in need. Volunteers and the future homeowners provide the labor in building the homes. Tax deductible donations of money, land and materials are provided by individuals, organizations and corporations. Qualified families contribute 500 hours of sweat equity by working on the job-site, attending one year of budget classes and participating in home maintenance and construction programs. With a $900 closing fee, families then purchase the homes with 25 year, 0% interest mortgages. Their monthly payments go into a revolving fund to help provide for the construction of additional homes.
The American Cancer Society is the nationwide, community-based, voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem by preventing cancer, saving lives, and diminishing suffering from cancer, through research, education, advocacy, and service.
